If you are a foreigner...

...you go on the front of the line. This is the phrase which encloses the philosophy of England nowadays. The English government exaggerates for once again in its history to be followed by the fame of the most welcoming country in Europe for working immigrants.

Instead of looking in the past and the connection of Great Britain with its colonies, I will focus on the current policy of the government. As soon as the immigrants arrive in England, either in a legal or illegal way, they obtain rights. Speaking with local people, it can be easily understood that the situation is unbearable for them because the foreigners are being faced up with special treatment.

After my holidays in England, I understood better the way of life over there. Tremendous differences exist between the Mediterranean mentality and the Northern one. People live to work in terms of going out from house early in the morning when the sunlight hasn't arrived yet and returning back in the evening when sun is already...past. In smaller cities the life is peaceful with people gathering in houses to taste the food of the housekeeper on Sundays. In bigger cities and in the capital the way of life is more stressful, without colours.

All in all, it was a pretty interesting experience due to the fact of comparing the Mediterranean way of life with the Northern one. In this way we can appreciate our current everyday life.

  • Sadly, although England is indeed a country, there's no English government ;-) and yes, foreigners do have rights, but the situation is hardly "unbearable" for the locals.

People leave for work while it's dark and return home when it's dark because the winter days are so short. We do however make the best of summer, when we wake up with the sun shining, leave work with the sun shining and often go to bed while it's still light.

Life in London is very colourful indeed, but you need to know where to look for it. Next time you visit London, buy Time Out.

P.S. The bridge of Bristol is actually the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

  • I am really wondering how pleasant a life could be if someone wakes up early in the morning and goes to bed while it's still light and only during the summer.
In my opinion life probably could be nice in London for people who can spend a lot of money either they are permanent citizens or they are tourists. In different case, someone could easily select a European city to live with less cost and equal or higher quality of life!
